The Elephant Rope

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before?

Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.

WOW - Part 1

Dear Readers...

Today I shall put my views on the how we work at the workplace, what mindset do we perceive and what we achieve.

Title "WOW" stands for Ways Of Working.

Starting from the day we get selected for a job, we are filled with joy of getting selected for the defined position. People often gets mistaken that they have got the job hence their life is going to be easy. But in reality, life starts to get complicated as they will be tested on various grounds and various situations. When the imaginations of easy life gets converted into the reality of difficult situations and continuous performance, employee feels his life has become hell, because the imagination & dreams did not come into existence. There starts the real problem called Job Dissatisfaction. It is the dangerous ever situation for employer and employee. Its is lethal enough for employer to loose an employee and for employee to loose a good organisation.

A bad start often gives a sad end & A good start is half a battle won...!!

So how to start your job on a good note ?  I have the answers for you.....

# As a new joinee in any organisation, always expect little from organisation and have a mindset to give.

# Cultivate habit to observe, speak less & listen more.

# Don't get carried away with the existing staff.

# Trust your abilities rather than anyone else.

# Don't think on negatives of organisation. Think of how you bring on the positive change.

# Have a smiling face with confidence & gratitude.

# Don't try to show off or dominate others by your position.

# Never talk about your previous employer or boss.

# Have a learning attitude and humble behavior.

# Never advise or interrupt others unless you are close enough to them.

# Help others and seek for help.

# Never assume anything on your own.

# Avoid oral communication & prefer e-mail.

# Be boss oriented rather than work oriented.

# Be social, not personal.

# As e new joinee never criticize people, policy or management systems.

# Read all the do's and don'ts of the organisation.

# Follow the policies and practices of organisation.

# Dress well and look pleasant.

# Discuss topics, not issues.

# Believe in the team-work.

Doing the above mentioned may look very easy and simple but difficult to apply because as we get to know people we become casual in approach but get noticed to management. A good impression from beginning gives good credit and respect as a person and keeps you away from all the complexities.

In the next part of "WOW" we shall discuss on issues faced by employees and employers and what could be the remedies to overcome. So don't forget to read the next blog.

A STRENGTHY WEAKNESS

Dear Viewers,

I have a story for you that will motivate and re-energize you and boost your morale.

A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move. “Sensei,”(Teacher in Japanese) the boy finally said, “Shouldn’t I be learning more moves?” “This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the sensei replied.

Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training. Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.
This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened. “No,” the sensei insisted, “Let him continue.” Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the tournament.
He was the champion. On the way home, the boy and sensei reviewed every move in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind.
“Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?”
“You won for two reasons,” the sensei answered. “First, you’ve almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm.”
The boy’s biggest weakness had become his biggest strength.

Moral: Sometimes we feel that we have certain weaknesses and we blame God, the circumstances or ourselves for it but we never know that our weaknesses can become our strengths one day. Each of us is special and important, so never think you have any weakness, never think of pride or pain, just live your life to its fullest and extract the best out of it!”

Power Of Positivity

Today I have a new topic to spot light on. I want to make you realize the POWER OF POSITIVITY.

If you are a negative thinker then, it is your last day to think negative. Because from the moment you will end reading this blog, you shall be positive and clear with your thoughts and life.

What positivity is actually ? We may say it is to think good about us. But what after that ? When talking about thinking positive, people think little and come to a conclusion and then after expect a miracle and something superb to happen. That would definitely not happen even if God steps down to Earth from Heaven.

So how to think positively ??

First of all have a clear thought in life of what you want to achieve and where you want to be at the end. People tend to act and then expect the result but smart people focus on result and act accordingly. To be positive you also need to be focused and smart at the same time.

After setting your focus on desired results see how positive you are and what level of efforts you will need to accomplish it. The target must look tough to you otherwise there is no fun and meaning in setting the target and achieving the same.

Now divide you target in parts and cultivate a habit to WALK AN EXTRA MILE. Here walking an extra mile means always try to do something extra and even if you are feeling fatigued or tired just give a voice to yourself and challenge yourself saying IS THAT ALL I CAN DO ?  You will automatically get the reply that come on you can do more.

We must keep walking that extra mile and extend the success. But always have one thing in mind, if you doubt yourself then the race is over. As we say there is no space for ghost in God's house (Temple/Church/Masjid), in the same manner there is no space for Negative thoughts in mind of one who wants to achieve something. Once you become positive with your thoughts, there is no-one in the world to defeat you, except you.

To make your thoughts and mindset positive, you need some special ingredients ;

  • Never ending commitment.
  • Fighting spirit.
  • Learning from Failures.
  • Getting up after falling is important.
  • Know your capacity, capabilities and core competencies.
  • Never compete with others, compete with yourself.
  • Patience (crucial for success)
  • Capacity to overcome or ignore criticism from negative speakers.
  • Be optimistic.
  • Motivate yourself and appreciate your efforts.
  • Focus on extending horizons.
  • Don't justify yourself to everyone.
  • Speak less, act more.
  • Have gratitude rather than attitude
  • Re-fuel and re-energize yourself with good thoughts.
  • Be your own role-model.
  • Forgive others and ask for forgiveness too.
  • Be thankful to God.
  • Control your mind and emotions before it reacts.
  • Convert your fear into hobbies.
  • Never be too serious.
  • Read motivational and success stories.
  • Come out from your comfort zone.
  • Stick to your goal without deviations and distractions.

Blend all these ingredients and you will surely turn from a negative thinker to the most positive person on this planet.

All the best..! Have a positive life ahead..!!

Appreciation of Hard Work

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company. He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision. The director discovered from the CV that the youth’s academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, Never had a year when he did not score.

The director asked, “Did you obtain any scholarships in school?” The youth answered “none”.

The director asked,  “Was it your father who paid for your school fees?” The youth answered, “My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees”.

The director asked,  “Where did your mother work?” The youth answered, “My mother worked as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect”.

The director asked,  “Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?” The youth answered, “Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me”.

The director said, “I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mother’s hands, and then see me tomorrow morning”.

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid. The youth cleaned his mother’s hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mother’s hands were so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mother’s hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future. After finishing the cleaning of his mother’s hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his mother. That night, mother and son talked for a very long time. Next morning, the youth went to the director’s office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth’s eyes, asked:  “Can you tell me what have you done and learned yesterday in your house?” The youth answered,  “I cleaned my mother’s hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes”.

The Director asked,  “please tell me your feelings”. The youth said, “Number 1, I know now what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not the successful me today. Number 2, By working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done. Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship”.

The director said,  “This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired”. Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates. Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The company’s performance improved tremendously.

Something to learn :   If one doesn’t understand and experience the difficulty it takes to earn the comfort provided by their loved ones, than they will never value it.  The most important thing is to experience the difficulty and learn to value hard work behind all the given comfort.
